Family
Mermithidae Braun, 1883
93.
Mermitidae
gen. spp.—
{7, 63, 65, 67} (5, 0, 0, 27;
6
)
Population structure and abundance.
1–
2 females
and males of unidentified genera at the each sample.
Remarks.
The juveniles of mermithids parasitize terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates (predominantly insects) while adults are free living but do not feed. Most studies of the family have been carried out in the
Northern
hemisphere and some taxonomic issues are still obscure (
Holovachov &
De Ley
2006a
;
Eyualem
et al.
2008
). We have found no published data on representatives of this family in
Vietnam
.
Eyualem
et al.
(2008)
indicate that 164 species of mermithids are known from the
Oriental
biogeographic region
