Fabaceae : Lathyrus japonicus Willd. , L. ochroleucus Hook. , Medicago sativa L., Melilotus albus Medik. , M. indicus (L.) All., Oxytropis campestris (L.) DC. var. spicata Hook. , Pisum L., Trifolium hybridum L., T. repens L., Vicia americana Muhl. , V. villosa Roth ( Frick 1959 ; Spencer 1965 , 1969 ; Lonsdale 2017 ; Scheffer & Lonsdale 2018 ). The Oxytropis record was originally reported as O. sericea Nutt. ( Lonsdale 2017 ) , but according to USDA, NRCS (2017), O. campestris var. spicata is the only valid taxon occurring in British Columbia that has been referred to as O. sericea . Spencer (1969) also attributed to Liriomyza fricki empty leaf mines on “ Caragana pubescens ” in Alberta , apparently referring to C. arborescens Lam. The erroneous record of Vigna Savi ( Sehgal 1971 ; Lonsdale 2011) can be traced back to Stegmaier’s (1968) listing of Vicia villosa as Vigna villosa . Leaf mine. ( Fig. 141 ) According to Spencer & Steyskal (1986) , a “short linear mine, with frass in greenishblack strips.” Sehgal (1971) described the mine as a small blotch with a short linear beginning. The single confirmed example we have seen was whitish and essentially linear, but it widened dramatically and contorted to form a secondary blotch. The dark green frass particles were deposited rather irregularly, loosely arranged into alternating elongate patches unlike the distinct strips seen in other Liriomyza mines. Puparium. Yellow-orange; formed outside the mine. Distribution. USA : CA, MA, MD, MI, MN, NY ( Scheffer & Lonsdale 2018 ), WA, WI, WY; Canada : AB, BC, MB, NB, NS, NT, ON, PE, QC, SK, YT.
