HL. Mouth slightly subterminal; premaxilla with 6-10 teeth, inner dentary row with 7-11, outer with 4 large plus 33-35 small and maxilla with 36-51 teeth. Lateral line complete, with 81-86 pored scales; transverse series above lateral line with 16-18 scale rows and below with 15-17 scale rows. Dorsal fin with 11 or 12, pectoral fin with 15 or 16, pelvic fin with 8, anal fin with 43-50, and caudal fin with 19 rays. Ground color silvery to yellowish; silvery longitudinal band on flank (brown or grey in preserved specimens), from humeral spot to caudal peduncle; black oval, vertically elongated, humeral spot.
