Material examined . Panama [Pacific]: 1 male , cl 4.9, cw 4.7, 1 ov. female, cl 5.3, cw 5.5 ( MZUSP 33958 ), Las Perlas Is ., Isla Contadora , east end of Playa Galeon , rocky shore, low tide, under rocks and in rock crevices, leg. A. Anker , J. Luque, A.R . Palmer & T. Kaji , 16.04.2015 . Previous records from Panama . Nobili (1901) ; Haig (1957, 1960, 1968); Gore (1982) . Distribution . East Pacific: El Salvador , Costa Rica , Panama (Bahía Honda in Veraguas , Isla Venao, Amador Causeway near Ciudad de Panamá, Las Perlas Is.), Colombia and Ecuador (Haig 1957, 1960, 1968; Gore 1982 ; present study). Ecology . Largely intertidal, possible depth range: 0–2 m ; under rocks and in rock crevices ( Haig 1960 , 1968 ; Gore 1982 ; present study). Remarks . Petrolisthes holotrichus appears to be uncommon in Panama and was known, prior to Haig’s (1957, 1960) records, only from the type material of Nobili (1901) . The species is easily recognisable by its squarish format and “fuzzy” appearance, due to the densely pilose carapace and P1–4 ( Fig. 58 ).
