East Pacific: Mexico , Costa Rica , Panama (Coiba Is., Secas Is., Jicarita I., Las Perlas Is., Amador Causeway near Ciudad de Panamá ), Colombia , Ecuador and Peru ( Haig 1960 , 1968 ; García-Madrigal & Andréu- Sánchez 2009; Moscoso 2012 ; present study). Ecology . Intertidal and shallow subtidal, known depth range: 0–7 m ; under rocks, in crevices of rocks and corals, sometimes associated with hermit crabs, Aniculus elegans Stimpson ( Haig 1960 ; García-Madrigal & Andréu- Sánchez 2009; Moscoso 2012 ). Remarks . In all Panamanian specimens of P. ortmanni ( Fig. 68 ), the carapace and P1 varies from pale brownish to yellowish, whereas the P2–P4 are always darker brown. In some younger individuals from Colombia , the P1 are paler and speckled with dark spots ( Ferreira et al. 2020 ). The specimen illustrated by García-Madrigal & Andréu- Sánchez (2009) was photographed either post-mortem or shortly after preservation and lost most of its original colours.
