Now : Philydor ruficaudatum ruficaudatum (d’Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1838) . See Cory & Hellmayr (1925: 208) . Type series : Cabanis (1873a: 66) based this species on an unspecified number of specimens, which included at least an adult and a juvenile bird. Taczanowski (1875: 528) listed them as two males, perhaps in error, because he later ( Taczanowski 1889: 23 ) recorded them as a male and an unsexed juvenile. These two specimens are thus syntypes of this species. Both were deposited in the MIZ ( Taczanowski 1889: 23 ). At least one was destroyed in the 1920s (cf. Sztolman & Domaniewski 1927 : 134), and none survived until today ( Mlíkovský 2009b ). Syntype (lost): MIZ unnumbered (N.7174), 3, collected by Jelski on an unknown date [= August to December 1870 ] at "Monterico" [= Monterrico, Peru ]. Syntype (lost): MIZ unnumbered (N.7171), juv., collected by Jelski on an unknown date [= August to December 1870 ] at "Monterico" [= Monterrico, Peru ]. This specimen is also one of the syntypes upon which Berlepsch & Sztolcman (1896: 375) based their Philydor euphrys Berlepsch & Sztolcman, 1896 (see Mlíkovský 2009b ). Type locality : "Monterico" ( Cabanis 1873a: 66 ), i.e. Monterrico, Peru [ 12.05°S , 74.10°W ].
