Material in MHNG , Lamarck collection: no material. Rosalie de Lamarck’s marginal notations indicate that there were originally 2 specimens in her father’s collection. These 2 syntypes have not been found and the only specimen in the Delessert collection does not match the size given by Lamarck (11 pouces 4 lignes = about 307 mm ). The Delessert specimen measures 365 mm . Remarks: the original spelling was emended to colosseus by W. Wood (1818) : 125, pl. 26, fig. 72. Current taxonomic position: Hemifusus colosseus ( Lamarck, 1816 ) ; is the type species of Hemifusus Swainson, 1840 [ Melongenidae ].
