Type data. 1 ♂ syntype ( NHMW 3126 , examined by photographs) ; 6 ♂ syntypes ( SMF RI 764 , examined by pho- tographs), from BRAZIL , without further locality data . Taxonomical note. The original description of Stephanocranion bufoninus is based upon a female from Pedra- Açu, Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro state . Although it lacks any illustration, some parts of the description led us to synonymize S . bufoninus with Discocyrtus crenulatus (a species common in Teresópolis), in contrast to Kury’s (2003) assessment as a member of Gonyleptellus . The features shared by the female of D . crenulatus and the description of S . bufoninus include: elevated ocularium, armed with a pair of robust erect spines; mesotergum convex, with hemispherical granulations; area III armed with a pair of robust erect spines; femora III–IV with apical posterior spine; general color brown burnt with large yellow hemispherical granulations.
