Distribution.
Western Atlantic—Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul),
Uruguay
, and
Argentina
(
Boschi 1964
;
Coelho & Ramos 1972
;
Melo 1990
,
1996
).
Remarks.
Previous records in São Paulo include Ilha Anchieta (
Melo 1990
). This species is found in areas under the influence of the
Malvinas
Current in warm temperate waters of subtropical origin (
Melo 1990
). Thus, it is possible that
C. tridentatus
do not occur in the sampled sites because of the influence of other currents or due to the lack of favorable conditions (cold temperature) for its establishment in the environment. The new taxonomic rearrangement moved this species to the family
Polybiidae (
Spiridonov
et al.
2014
)
.
