This species was initially described as a subspecies of
degenerans
(
Verhoeff 1900a
)
, but
Strasser (1974)
gave it full species rank, and provided new illustrations of gonopods and male pregonopodal legs.
D. trispiculigerum
is so far known only from the Greek island of Kerkira (Corfu) and the neighbouring continental part of the Greek province Epirus (
Strasser 1976
) and
Albania
(
Mauriès et al. 1997
). Strasser observed certain variability in the gonopod structures in some of the samples from the continent, and taking his remarks into account,
Mauriès et al. (1997)
raised the question whether
bosniense
and
trispiculigerum
are indeed conspecific. However, it is also plausible that Strasser’s (1976) material from Anemorachi (Fig. 33) belongs to another, closely related species. Only additional material can answer the question. Although nice drawings of
trispiculigerum
gonopods were made available by
Strasser (1974)
, we here present additional illustrations of male gonopods taken from an original slide of Verhoeff of a nontypical specimen from Corfu (Fig. 32).
