Remarks
Latzel (1884)
described
degenerans
from
Serbia
and although having no further evidence presumed its occurrence on the territory of the AustrianHungarian Monarchy. His suspicion has proved correct as sixteen years later
Verhoeff (1900b)
reported it form near Temesvar (Timisoara) and Herkulesbad (Baile Herculane) in Banat,
Romania
.
Attems (1929)
was the first to record it for the
Republic of Macedonia
, the Kosovan part of Shar Planina Mts., and in Nemila, in
Bosnia and Herzegovina
. The lastmentioned locality is rather far from the others, and along with Latzel’s (1888) record (repeated by
Karlinski 1894
) from Sucha, Trebinje in
Herzegovina
is the westernmost record of all. However, both are already quite outdated (101 and 76 years, respectively) and need to be confirmed with fresh material. Further finds from
Macedonia
and
Serbia
were recently reported by
Mršić (1993)
and
Makarov et al. (2004)
. Although probably being of allochtonous origin, of special interest is the find of
D. degenerans
in Budapest and Budai Mts.,
Hungary
(
Korsós 1992
,
1994
; see also
Korsós et al. 2002
), which together with the undoubtedly introduced population of
Callipus foetidissimus gallicus
Brolemann,
1930
in Paris,
France
, forms the northern border of distribution of order
Callipodida
in Europe (
Shear et al. 2003
).
Besides in Latzel’s book (1884), illustrations of gonopods of
D. degenerans
can be found also in the papers of
Verhoeff (1900a)
and
Hoffman & Lohmander (1964)
.
