Robertson
The genus
Poponapis
contains several species, which are distributed mostly in North and Central
America
(
Urban
et al
. 2007
). All species of the genus visit crops of
Cucurbita
to obtain pollen (
Hurd & Linsley 1967
;
Wagenknecht 1970
). Some species are broadly distributed, due to the extension of cultivation of domestic
Cucurbita
(
Michener 2007
)
. The South American species of
Peponapis
were reviewed by
Hurd & Linsley (1967)
. These autors also illustratrated some male structures of the species
