Material examined . St. 17 ( 31°37.75’N , 116°45.807´W ), April 18, 2005 , 247 m, one female (CL, 35.0 mm; CLwr, 27.4 mm ; RCh, 62 mm ; LCh, 62 mm ) and one female (CL, 38.1 mm ; CLwr, 29.5 mm ; RCh, 68 mm ; Lch, 74 mm ) (ICML-EMU-12827) ( Fig. 1 ). Posterior carapace and first abdominal somites, dorsal. Distribution . From Sitka, Alaska , USA , to Los Coronados Islands, west coast of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico ( Wicksten 2012 ). This is the second record of M. quadrispina in western Mexico . In depth of 12‒1463 m ( Wicksten 2012 ). Remarks . Hendrickx (2003) re-examined the male lectotype of M. quadrispina , concluding this is a rather variable species. However, a list of diagnostic characters allowing to separate M. quadrispina from all other eastern Pacific species of the genus was provided and the specimen examined herein coincide with all of these. The chelipeds of the specimen examined, however, are comparatively more spinose than in the lectotype and with many trifid rugae. The largest size of record for M. quadrispina is 67 mm CL ( Wicksten 2012 ), almost twice as large as the largest specimen examined herein.
