is easily separated from all other species of the
punctulatus
clade in that the female antenna is 12- segmented. In addition, the lower face of
P.
formosanus
is densely punctate with sparse foveae, in contrast to the usual, mainly foveate-reticulate pattern of the
punctulatus
group.
