Description of eleven new Triplectides species (Trichoptera: Leptoceridae) from New Caledonia Author Malm, Tobias Author Johanson, Kjell Arne text Zootaxa 2008 1816 1 34 journal article 10.5281/zenodo.182902 4984277e-ff5f-4a5d-97f5-4b225cfa3921 1175-5326 182902 Triplectides abnormalis , new species Figs 9–16 , 90 . Diagnosis. This species is separated from many other Triplectides species by the spur formula 2:2:2. It is easily distinguished from the remaining species by the absence of the hind wing discoidal cell, due to reduction of the basal parts of S1+2. Male: Body colour light straw to golden brown (in alcohol). Tibial spur formula 2:2:2. Claws on all legs unmodified. Forewing ( Figs 9, 11 ) length 7.5–8.5 mm (N=8); colour light golden brown (in alcohol); diffuse, dark areas present proximal to fork 1, extending anteriorly to R and in fork 5; lighter area present around S4 and crossvein m-cu; forks 1, 2 and 5 present; fork 1 and branching of m with short stalks; Dc narrow, about half length of Tc; distance between crossvein s and S4 shorter than length of S4, S4 meeting M close to crossvein m-cu. Hind wing ( Fig. 10 ) forks 2, 3 and 5 present; S4 arising about its own length proximal to s; Dc absent due to reduction of basal parts of S1+2. Nygma present in all wings in fork 2. Genitalia ( Figs 12–16 ): segment IX narrow, widest dorsally, in ventral view ( Fig. 14 ) with small central posterad extension. Superior appendages ( Figs 12, 13 ) about 2/3 as long as tergum X; dorsoventrally flattened; broad; in dorsal view ( Fig. 13 ) slightly club-shaped, apices rounded. Tergum X with small, bifid dorsobasal projection; in ventral view ( Fig. 14 ) widening, towards apical 3/4; apical lobes slightly rounded; apex with minute marginal setae; ventrally with lateral, setae-bearing, prominent carinae, readily seen in lateral view ( Fig. 12 ). Inferior appendages ( Figs 12, 14 ) slender; apicodorsal lobes slightly longer than robust harpagones; basoventral processes short, rounded, basally directed posterolaterad before curving posterad, not exceeding mesal lobes; mesal lobes wide, apically flat, with small, sharp laterad protrusion, shallowly separated from major branches. Phallus ( Figs 15, 16 ) bent posterad shortly after 1/3 its length; apex with 2 protruding, lateral flanges; weakly broadening distally in ventral view ( Fig. 16 ). Distribution. This species seems restricted to the southern 1/3 of Grande Terre ( Fig. 90 ). Etymology. From Latin, abnormalis – departing from rule, abnormal; named for the atypical absence of the hind wing discoidal cell.
