Type locality: “ Merida ( Mérida ), Venezuela , at an altitude (elevation) of 1,600 metres.” Elevation may be in error, as it is known from 2,600 to 3,400 m ; 1,600 m is the elevation of Merida , from where the specimens were shipped. Distribution: Region 1. Sierra de la Culata in subpáramo and páramo habitats in Venezuelan Andes of Mérida State . Remarks: Considered type species of genus Mucubatrachus La Marca, 2007 . Barrio-Amorós et al. (2013) show this species is phylogenetically embedded in Pristimantis . Not assigned to any species group ( Hedges et al. 2008 ; Padial et al. 2014 ).
