Diagnosis. Calliscelio may be distinguished from other genera of the subfamily by the combination of the following characters: eyes glabrous in many species but in some with short hairs or even densely hairy; skaphion never developed; metanotum medially produced into a transverse plate or lamella, neither spinose nor toothed laterally; propodeum usually unarmed, often excavate to contain T1 horn, only in a few species with posterolateral corner acute; T6 in females often elongate, sword-like, depressed dorsoventrally. Calliscelio is most similar to Holoteleia Kieffer and Probaryconus Kieffer in the tribe Calliscelionini and Calotelea in Psilanteridini in body shape and some external characters.
