Description
. Female (n = 22). Body length 8.5–11 (HT: 10.4) mm, polished and covered with punctures and silver setae.
Head 0.6–0.65 (HT: 0.63) × as long as wide. Clypeus 2.0 × as broad as high, sparsely punctate, slightly convex in lateral view. Face 1.85–2.0 (HT: 2.0) × as broad as high, densely punctate (
Fig. 10 B
), convex medially in lateral view. Malar space 0.45–0.5 × (HT: 0.5) as long as basal mandibular width. POL 1.6–1.8 (HT: 1.8) × as long as OD. OOL 1.2–1.5 (HT: 1.5) × as long as OD. Vertex with long setae, ca. 2.0 × as height as lateral ocellus in lateral view. Antenna with 32–33 flagellomeres. FL I 3.6–4.0 (HT: 4.0) × as long as maximum depth in lateral view and 1.55–1.65 (HT: 1.55) × as long as FL II.
Mesosoma densely punctate. Epomia absent. Speculum with a conspicuous smooth area. Mesosternum with long and dense setae, ca. 1.2 × as long as maximum depth of FL I in lateral view. Propodeum with posterior transverse carina largely absent except for short, trace-like ridge (
Fig. 10 C
). Fore wing length 8.0–8.5 (HT: 8.3) mm. Areolet received vein 2m-cu slightly distant of the outer angle. Nervellus intercepted at middle. Hind femur 5.6–6.0 (HT: 5.6) × as long as maximum depth in lateral view. Ratio of length of hind first to fifth tarsomeres 4.2–4.4 (HT: 4.4): 2.0: 1.45–1.5 (HT: 1.45): 0.9–1.0: 0.95–1.0 (HT: 1.0). Hind second tarsomere 4.0–4.4 (HT: 4.0) × as long as maximum depth in lateral view. Tarsal claws pectinate.
Metasoma. T I 1.65–1.75 (HT: 1.7) × as long as maximum width, densely punctate except for smooth areas on apex and base, with minute transverse striae dorsally. T II 0.8–1.0 (HT: 0.8) × as long as maximum width. T II to T V finely punctate, with minute transverse striae. Ovipositor sheath 1.05–1.1 (HT: 1.1) × as long as hind tibia.
Coloration (
Figs 10 A–C
). Body (excluding wings and legs) black. Clypeus yellowish brown to reddish brown with except for dorsal black area. Mandible except for apex and base weakly tinged with yellowish brown to reddish brown. Each posterior margin of T II to T VI black or narrowly, slightly tinged reddish brown. Ovipositor reddish brown. Wings hyaline. Veins and pterostigma blackish-brown except for brown wing base. Legs black except for a white basal area of tibiae (sometimes indistinct) and a white area of hind tarsus (usually third and fourth tarsomere and sometimes also second tarsomere). Tegula sometimes with a small yellow spot.
Male (n = 1). Similar to female. Length of malar space 0.3 × as long as basal mandibular width. Antenna with 39 flagellomeres. Posterior transverse carina of propodeum relatively well developed than female. Hind femur 5.4 × as long as maximum depth in lateral view. Tarsal claws simple.
Coloration. Similar to female. Tegula largely yellow. Basal white area of tibiae larger than female. Middle tarsus with white area from apical part of second tarsomere to fourth tarsomere.
Distribution
.
Japan
(
Hokkaido
, Honshu and Shikoku).
Bionomics
. Host unknown. Adults were collected in April to June.
Etymology
. The species name is derived from the Latin “septentrionalis”, meaning northern. The distribution of this species is biased towards northern
Japan
.
Remarks
. This species resembles
A. brevipetiolaris
but can be distinguished from the latter by the following combination of character states: ovipositor sheath 1.05–1.1 × as long as hind tibia (1.4–1.6 × in
A. brevipetiolaris
); clypeus 2.0 × as broad as high (2.6 × in
A. brevipetiolaris
); mesoscutum without yellow markings (with a pair of yellow markings in
A. brevipetiolaris
); each posterior margin of T II to T VI narrowly tinged with red (conspicuously whitish yellow in
A. brevipetiolaris
).
