Type specimens and type localities of Peruvian birds described by Jean Cabanis on the basis of Konstanty Jelski's collections Author Mlíkovský, Jiří Author Frahnert, Sylke text Zootaxa 2009 2171 29 47 journal article 10.5281/zenodo.189227 3ee60011-81c1-42da-bf6e-57bcd73f85b1 1175-5326 189227 233D72A0-1E76-41EB-9146-35C5F8AF27C8 Turdus gigantodes Cabanis Turdus gigantodes Cabanis, 1873c : 315 . Now : Turdus fuscater gigantodes Cabanis, 1873 . See Hellmayr (1934: 416) . Type series : Cabanis (1873c: 315–6316) based this species on one or more females deposited in the ZMB . Entries in the Accession Catalogue of the ZMB indicate that he had only one relevant specimen at disposal, which is thus the holotype of this species. Holotype : ZMB 21191 (B-9963), Ƥ, collected by Jelski in "1873" (younger ZMB label) [= May to September 1871 ] at "Maraynioc" [= Maraynioc, Peru ]. The date given on the ZMB label refers to the year when the ZMB received and catalogued the specimen, not to a collection date. Type locality : "Maraynioc" ( Cabanis 1873c: 315 ), i.e. Maraynioc, Peru [ 11.37°S , 75.40°W ]. Remarks : Taczanowski (1875: 503) wrote that he received from Jelski "plusieurs exemplaires" (several specimens) collected at Maraynioc and at Ninabamba [= Ninacaca], but he correctly did not list Turdus gigantodes Cabanis among the species whose type specimens were deposited in the MIZ ( Taczanowski 1889 ). Sztolcman & Domaniewski (1927: 156) believed that a juvenile specimen (MIZ 34324) belonged to the type series of the latter species (see Mlíkovský 2009b for details). This is not the case, however, because the species was based on a holotype deposited in the ZMB.
