See Groves (2005b: 115) and Schwitzer et al. (2013: 138) . COLLECTOR/S. — Two individuals bought by François Péron at Île de France (Mauritius) ( Jangoux et al. 2010: 276-277 ). COLLECTION LOCALITY. — Anjouan , Comoros . COLLECTION DATE. — Before 24 January 1804 . SPECIMEN NUMBER/S. — MNHN-ZM-MO-1993-4248 ( Fig. 39 ), holotype , skull ; and MNHN-ZM-MO-1993-4249 ( Figs 40 ; 41 ), paratype , skull and skin mount ( Rode 1939: 436 ). Two specimens were brought back alive to France on board Le Géographe (É. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire 1804c: 171; Girard 1856: 93 ). OTHER NUMBER/S. — Cat. Anat. Comp. A3009 and CAG I-329. COMMENTS. — The skull belongs to the type specimen (a male) whose naturalized skin was destroyed due to its poor preservation (inscription on a label under the pedestal). The lemur was alive, one of seven specimens donated by the Dutch Government in Cape Town to François Péron, whose provenance is unknown ( Péron 1804a ).
