Munida stimpsoni
A. Milne-Edwards, 1880
Munida stimpsoni
has been reported in the Caribbean and Gulf of
Mexico
in depths of
252 to 897 m
(Milne-
Edwards 1880
;
Benedict 1901
;
Chace 1942
). All specimens measured were collected in July in the Caribbean and the Gulf of
Mexico
in depths of
200 to 530 m
(
Fig. 9
G). Sixteen males were measured, 18 non-ovigerous females, and 31 ovigerous females; male CW ranged from
8.7 to 14.1 mm
, female CW ranged from
10 to 13.3 mm
, and ovigerous female CW ranged from
10 to 14.4 mm
. Males and females were not significantly different in size (t-test, df
=
63, t
=
-1.535, p
=
0.130) nor were ovigerous females and non-ovigerous females (t-test, df
=
45, t
=
-0.407, p
=
0.686). Females carried between 560 and 3595 eggs with an average egg diameter between
0.35 mm
and
0.53 mm
. Fecundity was not correlated with CW (R2
=
0.113, p
=
0.065) nor was average egg size correlated to CW (R2
=
0.0548, p
=
0.205).
