RCN: 5774 Lectotype (Robson in Taxon 29: 267, 272. 1980): [icon] " Hypericoides" in Plumier, Nov. Pl. Amer.: 51, t. 7. 1703 Generitype of Ascyrum Linnaeus Current name: Hypericum hypericoides (L.) Crantz ( Clusiaceae ) Note: Fernald (in Rhodora 38: 432. 1936) discussed various of the original elements, interpreting the name "as to Plumiers plant" but this falls short of formal typification. Adams (in Rhodora 59: 81. 1957) adopted a similar line but also designated Browne's specimen (944.4 LINN) as a neotype (unacceptable in the presence of original material). Robson's choice is followed here. See further comments by Reveal & al. (in Huntia 7: 226. 1987) and Robson (in Bull. Nat. Hist. Mus. London, Bot. 26: 129-130. 1996).
