From Mexico southward Guianas, Trinidad , Greater and Lesser Antilles, Bahamas , Bolivia , Peru , Brazil , northern Argentina , and Paraguay . In Brazil it occurs in the states of Amazonas, Amapá , Bahia , Ceará , Espírito Santo , Goiás , Mato Grosso , Mato Grosso do Sul , Pará, Paraíba , Pernambuco , Paraná , Rio de Janeiro , Roraima , Rio Grande do Sul , Santa Catarina , and São Paulo ( Reis et al , 2007 ). Habitat. This species is primarily eating fish, inhabiting tropical lowland habitats and roosting over ponds and quiet streams, estuaries of major rivers, bays and lagoons along coastlines ( Hood & Jones 1984 ).In the present study, three specimens were collected near in a sandy portion of the edge of the São Domingos River ( 12° 54’ 50.8” S , 47° 34’ 0.7” W ), in Paranã , TO, and in front of a weir ( 13 o 36’ 29.2” S , 46 o 46’ 39.3” W ) in São Domingos, GO . Voucher specimens. Six females – CHUNB 1199, 1200, 1201, 1202, 1203, and 1204; three malesCHUNB 1198 , 1218 , and 1219 .
