Diagnosis.
Udubidae
are supported by several homoplastic synapomorphies (Polotow
et al.
2015: fig. 6), which can be used to distinguish them from other Oval Calamistrum clade families: absence of a serrula on the movable chela of the chelicerae, tibia of male palp with ventral apophysis, oval cross section of the embolus, tarsal organ with a key-hole shaped opening (
Fig. 1E
), tarsal trichobothria of equal length, male leg tibiae with crack (
Fig. 3E
), uniquely textured spermathecae and elongated posterior lateral spinnerets.
Composition.
Campostichomma
Karsch, 1892
;
Raecius
Simon, 1892
;
Uduba
Simon, 1880
and
Zorodictyna
Strand, 1907
.
Distribution.
Tropical and sub-tropical Africa,
Madagascar
, and
Sri Lanka
.
Note.
Campostichomma
was not included as a terminal in the Polotow
et al.
(2015) analysis, but the genus presents the diagnostic morphological characters of
Udubidae
.
Lehtinen (1967: 318)
placed
Campostichomma
in his
Machadoniinae (Miturgidae)
along with
Devendra
. The close relationship of
Campostichomma
and
Uduba
was first proposed by
Griswold (1993)
, recovered by
Raven & Stumkat (2005)
and was discussed by
Griswold (2000)
as a potential case of vicariance between Madagascar and Sri Lanka.
