Tapaya orbicularis longicaudatus
Dugès, 1888
b
Dugès’ original description (Dugès 1888b) apparently was based on a single specimen. Smith & Necker (1943) reported that they found the
type
and gave a detailed description and measurements. In the series of
Phrynosoma orbicularis
specimens in the MADUG, one bears the locality “
Mexico
” and is labeled as
Tapaya orbicularis
and it broadly coincides with Smith & Necker’s (1943) description and measurements (HE 422,
Fig. 6A
). This specimen should be considered the
holotype
.
Current valid name:
Phrynosoma
o. orbiculare
(Linnaeus, 1758).
