Sathrochthonius
is composed of nine species, of which seven are distributed in Oceania and two in South America. This is an unusual record since the other South American species,
S. pefauri
Vitali-di Castri, 1974 is recorded only from
Chile
, and the
holotype
of
S. venezuelanus
is the only other known specimen in the Neotropics. This record results in a geographic extension of the distribution about
1700 km
in a completely different ecosystem for
S. venezuelanus
.
