Type species: Asterolecanium phoenicis Ramachandra Rao. Diagnostic characters of the adult female: Slide-mounted, body more-or-less elongate, with a continuous or discontinuous marginal row of 8-shaped pores, lined with a more-or-less developed ventral row of quinquelocular disc-pores or trilocular pores. Anal opening simple, without pores or setae. Dorsal surface with or without 8-shaped pores. Ventral microtubular ducts present or absent. Dorsal tubular 8-shaped pores present (in the type species) or absent. Spiracles accompanied by quinquelocular disc-pores, which may be present in high concentrations forming clusters. All species of Palmaspis are confined to host-plants belonging to the palm family ( Arecaceae ). Comments: Worldwide, 34 species are included in Palmaspis ( GarcĂ­a Morales et al . 2016 ) ; only P. phoenicis (Ramachandra Rao) is known from Iran ( Kaussari 1957 ).
