The Ringed Hognose Snake was identified by its dorsoventrally flattened body, upturned snout, 21 rows of dorsal scales at midbody, rounded tip of the tail, and color pattern. Its coral-like colors were alternated by incomplete dorsal rings, which end on the white belly. Ring colors sequence were red, black, white and black, repetitively from head to tail (
