Body dark brown, almost black, with legs and labium ocher ( Fig. 16 ). Head 1.5 times wider than long; maximum head width across the mandibular plates subequal to half the head width across the eyes; posterior margins of the eyes forming an angle of less than 45º with the longitudinal body axis; each mandibular plate wider than clypeus, with the outer margin convex and the inner margin concave anterior to clypeus, apex rounded; antennomeres I slightly surpassing the mandibular plates, proportion of antennomeres: I II<III<IV<V ( Fig. 17 , A); labium not surpassing the middle of metasternum ( Fig. 16 , B), without intercalary segment ( Fig. 17 , B), proportion of labiomeres: I<II>III>IV. Thorax. Pronotum twice as wide as long; anterior and lateral margins shallowly concave ( Fig. 17 , A). Lateral half of the corial posterior margin concave, apical angle attaining the middle of connexival segment VI ( Fig. 16 , A). Metasternum flat, elevated. Abdomen. Medial portion of urosternites concolor with the lateral portion, sparsely and shallowly punctured ( Fig. 16 , B); trichobothria lateral to spiracles. Male. A, E ); dorsal wall length on midline subequal to the length of segment X; dorsal rim concave over segment X ( Fig. 18. A ); posterolateral angles truncated, dorsally excavated with lateral margins convex, and posteriorly exceeding the segment X for less than the latter’s length ( Fig. 18. A, B ); ventral rim u-shaped, lined with setae denser at apex ( Fig. 18. E ). Segment X with dense setae along the posterior margin; apex projected as a small beak ( Fig. 18 , A–C, F). Parameres laterally sinuous; dish-shaped process with an apical tuft of thin setae; apical branches of the parameres’ head short and diverging, external branch slightly longer than the internal ( Fig. 19 , D–F). Phallus. Proximal thecal width 1/4 of the maximum thecal width in lateral view ( Fig. 19 , A); apical lobes of the dorsal process of endosoma weakly dilated and rounded, margins of the emargination juxtaposed ( Fig. 19 , A–C). Female. Measurements (n=23): Total length (n=18) 15.80 ± 0.83 (17.90–14.30); width of abdomen (n=19) 7.50 ± 0.38 (8.30–7.10); head length 1.90 ± 0.15 (2.20–1.60); width 2.80 ± 0.17 (3.10–2.40); pronotum length 3.10 ± 0.14 (3.40–2.80); width 7.10 ± 0.32 (8.10–6.70); scutellum length 6.00 ± 0.23 (6.50–5.50); width 4.50 ± 0.19 (5.10–4.20); length of antennomeres: I (n=21) 0.90 ± 0.07 (0.80–1.10), II (n=18) 0.90 ± 0.07 (0.80–1.00), III (n=17) 1.50 ± 0.15 (2.00–1.30), IV (n=7) 1.70 ± 0.28 (2.00–1.20), V (n=5) 2.40 ± 0.13 (2.50–2.20); length of labiomeres: I 0.90 ± 0.09 (1.10–0.70), Int. 0.20 ± 0.04 (0.20–0.10), II 1.40 ± 0.13 (1.80–1.30), III (n=22) 1.10 ± 0.10 (1.40–1.00), IV (n=22) 0.90 ± 0.09 (0.70–1.00). Genitalia. ( Fig. 20 ). Valvifers VIII longer than wide, lateral angles as posteriorly projected as the sutural angles, posterior margins slightly convex ( Fig. 20 , A, vfVIII); laterotergites VIII wider than long, posterior margins subrectilinear ( Fig. 20 , A, laVIII); laterotergites IX with lateral margins straight, mesial margins convex, and rounded apices, not surpassing mediotergite VIII ( Fig. 20 , A, laIX). Thickening of the vaginal intima subrectangular in ventral view; ring sclerites oval in ventral view, twice wider than the thickening of the vaginal intima ( Fig. 20 , B); proximal portion of ductus receptaculi coiled, more than twice longer than the vesicular area ( Fig. 20 , B, drp); median duct of vesicular area uniformly wide through its length; distal portion of ductus receptaculi dilated towards the pars intermedialis, about twice longer than pars intermedialis and capsula seminalis taken together ( Fig. 20 , B, drd); pars intermedialis twice longer than capsula seminalis, this with three digitiform projections ( Fig. 20 , B, pi, cs). Comments. Similar to Janeirona insignis and Janeirona vianai . Differs from J. insignis by the maximum head width across the mandibular plates subequal to half the head width across the eyes, mandibular plates with rounded apex and the inner margin concave anterior to clypeus, and antennomeres I not dilated, slightly surpassing the mandibular plates. Differs from J. vianai by the larger size, antennomeres I surpassing the mandibular plates, metasternum flat, and pygophore posterolateral angles with truncated apices. Distribution: Argentina ( Misiones ), Brazil ( Rio de Janeiro , São Paulo , Paraná , Santa Catarina , and Rio Grande do Sul ).
