N.L. masc. adj. ultunensis pertaining to Ultuna, the site of Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden). Lactobacillus ultunensis produces both D- and L-lactate from glucose. Acid isproduced from galactose, fructose, mannose, cellobiose, maltose, lactose, sucrose, and trehalose. Acid isnot produced from arabinose, ribose, rhamnose and melezitose. Growth occurs at 42 but not at 45 °C [ 98 ]. The genome size of the type strain is 2.16 Mbp and the mol% G+C content of DNAis 36.0. Isolated from a biopsy of a healthy human gastric mucosa.
