Genus
Pipistrellus
Kaup, 1829
With Genus
Nyctalus
,
this genus represents Tribe
Pipistrellini
and Subfamily
Vespertilioninae
. All Korean species representing the Genus
Pipistrellus
are classified in the Subgenus
Pipistrellus
. Three species of
Pipistrellus
have been listed as inhabiting
Korea
, but the presence of one of them,
Pipistrellus pipistrellus
(
Schreber, 1774
)
remains doubtful. Although
P. pipistrellus
was reported in central
Korea
(
Ellerman & Morrison-Scott 1951
;
Won 1958
,
1967
), no available specimens or collection data exist; these reports possibly represent erroneous identifications (
Corbet 1978
). Therefore, we delisted
P. pipistrellus
from our list of the mammals of
Korea
and confirm two species of
Pipistrellus
in
Korea
.
