Diagnosis. This species can be recognized easily by the short elytra without yellow pattern, and strongly transverse, very densely punctate pronotum. Description. Body length 7.2–8.5 mm . Dorsal surface with dense yellow pubescence. Coloration of head and pronotum metallic green with golden-red overtones on the disc. Narrow lateral margin of pronotum yellow. Mouthparts, antennomeres and legs yellow. Antennomeres IV–XI slightly darker. Elytra metallic green-blue, without yellow lateral band. Ventral surface black, except narrow lateral band on all abdominal segments, sometimes reduced to small spots on apical segment. Head very shiny; moderately punctate on vertex and near eyes. Pronotum transverse, 1.42–1.5 times as wide as long; slightly microreticulate on sides. Punctation on disc very dense and regular, punctures large, separated by one or less one their diameters. Lateral margins very narrow. Elytra with striae deep, narrow, strongly punctured on base near scutellum. Intervals slightly convex in anterior half. Aedeagus ( Fig. 41 ). Comments. Chlaenius celer was described from “ Nord de l’Hindostan et Deccan” ( India ) . Much later, other species C. chitwanensis Kirchenhofer, 2005 ( Holotype in cJF) were described after two specimens from Nepal . The Author stated that the new species is similar in colouration and shape of pronotum with C. caudatus Landin, 1955 = C. celer , differing in wider and more punctate pronotum and shorter elytra. We studied specimens of C. celer from Vietnam , and its pronotum vary in shape and size of punctures. Holotype female not studied. Distribution. India , Burma , Nepal , Vietnam .
