Libythea labdaca ancoata is most similar to L. l. labdaca but its forewing dorsum lacks a bright white streak in cell 1A + 2A, and its hindwing has a faint white median band which is strong and distinct in L. l. labdaca . Type Specimens Examined. Libythea ancoata Grose-Smith 1891 , HOLOTYPE : , Madagascar : Irast ( BMNH ). Other Specimens Examined. ( 14♂ ): MADAGASCAR : 4♂ ( BMNH ) ; 2♂ , Last ( BMNH ) . 1♂ , Antanosy ( BMNH ) ; 2♂ , 1893, Last ( BMNH ) . 1♂ , Maromandia, IV-1932 ( CMNH ) ; 3♂ , VI-1932 ( CMNH ) . ' South Madagascar' , 1♂ ( BMNH ) . Distribution. Madagascar . Remarks. There has been some uncertainty in whether to recognize this taxon as a subspecies of L. cinyras or a separate species. Based on the striking wing pattern and its close resemblance to L. labdaca labdaca , I follow Shields (1984a) and treat this taxon as a subspecies of L. labdaca . There are no signficiant differences in genitalia between the two subspecies.
