Diagnosis.
Differs from all other North American henicopid and anopsobiid genera in the characteristic deep, subtriangular embayments of some of the tergites, in the high number (up to 60) of antennal articles and in the length of the largest adults, about twice that of any other North American anopsobiid or henicopid.

Greek “Speleo-“ indicating the underground habitat, combined with “-opsobius” to indicate placement in the
Anopsobiidae
. Gender is masculine.
