Type ( lectotype , designated here):—[ CHILE ]. Prov. Valdivia, in palustris gramineósque rarissima el corral, et los llanos, January 1835 , C . Gay 169 (under the name Pinguicula antarctica Vahl, P barcode P00603415 !; image of the lectotype is available at http://coldb. mnhn.fr/catalognumber/mnhn/p/p00603415). Note :— Casper’s (1966) citation of the “ holotype ” of P. chilensis (Clos in Gay 1849: 365 ), “ Chile , Valdivia, Gay 169–non vidi”, was not linked to any herbarium collection; although, it seems to be based on a specimen stamped “ isotype ” held at MNHN-P (P00603415). During our searches we could not locate any duplicate of this material, not even at the National Herbarium of Chile (SGO) which holds approximately 1.500 duplicate specimens collected by C. Gay ( Muñoz-Schick et al. 2012 ). In SGO we have traced just one specimen of P. chilensis (No. 056595 barcode SGO000004822) also identified as “ isotype ” although, the collector number (999) and the information on locality and date are different from the specimen at P. This specimen lacks collector’s name, nevertheless, it can be related to Gay due to the handwritten label. Since Clos (in Gay 1849 ) did not cited any particular specimen and the only two sheets located partially fit the locality on the protologue, at least one of them should be an original material, but both cannot be recognized as syntypes since they resulted from different gatherings. The locality information on P specimen is more similar to the information on the protologue, therefore in the absence of any other eligible material we selected the specimen at P, stamped “ isotype ” as lectotype .
