Diagnosis. BL 0.78–0.80 mm ; body moderately stout, EI 1.06–1.13; all antennomeres elongate except IX and X, which are as long as broad; antennal club trimerous and indistinctly delimited; pronotum with area close to each anterior corner asetose, distinctly impressed and margined laterally and mesally, but not posteriorly; anterior pronotal corners projecting anterolaterad; inner pair of pronotal antebasal pits connected by fine groove; frons in males modified, with a pair of shallow pits and a pair of angulate ridges adjacent to posteromesal margin of each pit, area between pits asetose; aedeagus slender, with distal portion of flagellum only slightly recurved. Description. Body of male ( Fig. 20 ) stout and strongly convex, uniformly dark reddish brown; setae on head, pronotum and elytra very short, dense and nearly recumbent, but discernible at magnification 40 ×. BL 0.78–0.80 mm (mean 0.79 mm ). Head ( Fig. 21 ) broadest at large, strongly convex and coarsely faceted eyes, HL 0.08 mm , HW 0.21–0.23 mm (mean 0.22 mm ); vertex weakly convex; frons modified, with a pair of shallow lateral pits and a pair of angulate longitudinal ridges extending posterad from posteromesal margin of each pit, area between ridges and around pits asetose; supraantennal tubercles weakly elevated. Punctures on head dorsum dense but very small and shallow, inconspicuous. Antennae slender, with indistinctly delimited trimerous club, AnL 0.41–0.43 mm (mean 0.42 mm ), all antennomeres except IX and X elongate, IX and X about as long as broad, antennomere XI indistinctly longer than IX and X combined, slightly more than twice as long as broad. Pronotum ( Figs 20–21 ) subrectangular, broadest at anterior corners; PL 0.24–0.25 mm (mean 0.25 mm ), PW 0.33–0.35 mm (mean 0.34 mm ); anterior and posterior margins weakly arcuate, anterior corners slightly projecting anterolaterad, sides just behind anterior corners slightly concave, posteriorly nearly straight; base with two lateral pairs of small pits, inner pair less distinct that the outer pair and connected by a shallow transverse groove; lateral pronotal carinae not serrate. Punctures on pronotal disc dense but very small and superficial, inconspicuous, area adjacent to each anterior pronotal corner slightly impressed and impunctate and asetose ( Fig. 21 ). Elytra oval, broadest distinctly anterior to middle; EL 0.45–0.48 mm (mean 0.46 mm ), EW 0.40–0.43 mm (mean 0.42 mm ), EI 1.06–1.13; humeral calli distinct; apices separately rounded. Punctures and setae on elytra similar to those on the median area of pronotal disc. Legs moderately long and slender, unmodified. Aedeagus ( Figs 22–25 ) elongate; AeL 0.20 mm ; median lobe in ventral view with elongate proximal capsular part and much shorter, sharply delimited distal part, which is subtrapezoidal in proximal half and then broadens distad, with apical margin slightly concave; diaphragm distinct, circular, sub-basally on ventral wall; flagellum only weakly recurved, not coiled; each paramere with one long apical seta. Female. Unknown. Distribution ( Fig. 123 ). Western Australia and Queensland . Etymology. The name pronotalis refers to the modified anterior pronotal corners. Remarks. This is the only species of Cephennomicrus in the world fauna with modified anterior pronotal corners.
