Hieracium paludosum
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
2
: 803. 1753
.
"Habitat in Europae borealioris nemoribus paludosis." RCN: 5866.
Lectotype
(Babcock in
Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot.
22: 200, 234. 1947): Herb. Linn. No. 954.25 (
LINN
)
.
Current name:
Crepis paludosa
(L.) Moench
(
Asteraceae
).
Note:
Babcock (
l.c
.) stated there were two sheets in LINN, one of which (evidently 954.25) is typical of this species; the other (954.26) belonging to
C. lapsanoides
(Gouan) Tausch
, an identification also noted earlier by Smith (
in sched.
). "There is no question as to which should be accepted as the Linnaean
'type'"
, Babcock wrote. On p. 234, he says a photo of the type shows young florets and no achenes. From comparison with the LINN material, it seems clear that
Babcock's
type choice was 954.25 (LINN), and this is accepted here.
