Abrothrix sanborni
is in the subgenus Abrothnix. Until recently, it encompasses two distinct lineages that now each rank as species; populations from northern Chiloe Island and adjacent mainland do not represent A.
sanborni
but rather A. manni. Most available literature referring to A.
sanborni
now relates to A. manni. Monotypic.
Distribution.
SC Chile, including C & S Chiloe I and EC Aysén Region.
Descriptive notes.
Head-body 100-115 mm,tail 69-85 mm, hindfoot 23-5-25-5 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. See general characters of the genus under the Long-haired Soft-haired Mouse (A.
longipilis
) account. Sanborn’s Soft-haired Mouse is a small, with uniform blackish brown color including tail and feet; tail is ¢.80% of head— body length; and ears small and scantily haired. It resembles Mann’s Soft-haired Mouse (A. manni) in external and cranial appearance;
minor
differences in Sanborn’s Softhaired Mouse include darker color, with dark gray hairs and blackish to brownish tips; less contrasting gray tones of individual hairs on venter; rhinarium and lips covered by short, thin blackish hairs; and forefeet and hindfeet dorsally covered by short brown hairs.

Nothofagus dombeyi
and N. betuloides (both
Nothofagaceae

Drimys
