Charlesella
, replacement name
Pygmaeopsis
Schaeffer, 1908: 347
(
non
Warren, 1907: 295
).
Remarks.
Schaeffer (1908)
described
Pygmaeopsis
for his new species
P. viticola
, from the
United States of America
(only known from the Lower Rio Grande Valley,
Texas
). However, the generic name had already been used by
Warren (1907)
to include his new species
P. purpurea
, from
Peru
.
Therefore, we are proposing
Charlesella
as a replacement name for
Pygmaeopsis
Schaeffer
, resulting in two new combinations:
C. viticola
(
Schaeffer, 1908
)
and
C. apicalis
(Bezark & Santos-Silva, 2019)
.
Etymology.
The genus name is in honor of Charles Frederic August Schaeffer. Feminine gender.
