Nemichthys scolopaceus
was described from off
Brazil
based on material collected by H.M.S.
Samarang
(
1843–1846
), and is known to have a worldwide distribution in all tropical and temperate seas (
Nielsen & Smith 1978
, Smith & Nielsen 1989).
