The species is distributed worldwide, except in Oceania.
Chant (1959)
reported the species after
Oudemans (1905)
described it. Subsequent researchers provided conflicting opinions on the species status. Evans & Momen (1988) examined the
type
materials of the species and related species and provided a detailed redescription.
