Margaropus winthemi Karsch, 1879a . Afrotropical: 1) Lesotho , 2) Namibia , 3) South Africa ( Walker & Laurence 1973 , Horak et al. 2018 ). The type locality of Margaropus winthemi is “Valparaíso,” an incorrect reference to a major Chilean city. Bedford (1920) explained that a common name for this tick in South Africa was “ Argentine tick.” However, there are no confirmed records of Margaropus winthemi from South America (Neotropical Zoogeographic Region).
