Cnemidophorus
sp. 2
Taxonomic remarks.
Cnemidophorus
sp. 2 differs from other forms of the
Cnemidophorus lemniscatus
group in some aspects of scutellation and color pattern. It is under description by MAR-J.
Distribution and habitat.
Cnemidophorus
sp. 2 is endemic to Brazilian Amazonia, occurring in
Amazonas
state, and until now known only from the upper
Negro River
(both sides—Fig. 6). It is parthenogenetic, terrestrial and diurnal, and can be found in open vegetation enclaves and on sandy beaches (MZUSP data). Even though
Cnemidophorus
sp. 1 also occurs in the
Negro river
basin, the two species have not been found syntopically.
