Etymology. apicata (adj.), at the tip. Diagnosis. Thecal processes short, subequally forked in length, outer processes spatulate ( Fig. 51 C). Description. Dorsum unmarked brown, crown blackish; frons pale brown, clypellus darker, at least at base; tegmina pale brown, each with 4 unaligned white spots, 2 on costa (the second large and triangular) and 2 on contrasting blackish apical band; transverse preapical pale band inconspicuous with at least a trace of red. Styles as in M. mutans ( Fig. 53 E). Length: male 7.5 mm , female 8.5 mm . Types . Holotype male, COLOMBIA : Rio Aguacatal , W. Cord[illeras] 2000 m , 7 [July?] 1912 (Fassl) . Paratype female, same data as holotype. Both types in SMFT . Remarks. One male, COLOMBIA : Valle del Cauca , Bajo Anchicaya 400m , 23 Mar. 1984 ( M. Suarez T.), in NCSU combines the color pattern of pronotum and tegmina in M. vittata with the dark head and the male genitalia of M. apicata , suggesting color dimorphism.
