Shrubs or small trees. Stellate hairs present.
Leaves
simple, opposite, usually one of a pair smaller than the other, margin denticulate, venation pinnate.
Inflorescences
racemes, terminal.
Calyx
connate, 4- or 5-dentate.
Corolla
connate, bilabiate, upper lip 2-lobed, lower lip 3-lobed, with two keels on the median lobe.
Stamens
4, didynamous; anthers apicifixed, versatile, cells divergent, opening introrse, longitudinally.
Ovary
2-locular, with distinct placentas, ovules numerous; stigma bilobed.
Fruit
a septicidal capsule.
Seeds
numerous, disc-like.
Distribution:
—Six species, four in Borneo and three in
Sulawesi
.
