Synonym: Trentonius Betten & Mosely 1940 : 11 (synonymized by Ross 1948 : 24), type species: Philopotamus distinctus Walker 1852 (original designation). Description. Spurs 2,4,4; forewings each with short discoidal cell and rather longer median cell; m-cu crossvein meeting M at basal angle of median cell ( Fig. 1 ); fork I, when present, with petiole of variable length; apical forks I–V or II–V present, fork II sessile. In each hind wing, forks I–III and V or II, III and V present; 3 anal veins extending freely to wing margin ( Fig. 2 ). In male genitalia segment IX short, usually bowed posterad, segment X either slightly or completely cleft apicomesally into 2 lobes, lacking processes except setose preanal appendages which vary in size and shape. Inferior appendages 2-segmented; distal segment subequal to or shorter than basal segment. Phallus consisting of phallotheca appearing as a membranous internal sac and endotheca with several sclerotized spines and 1 long spine with basal plate. Distribution. Oriental, East and West Palearctic, and Nearctic Biogeographic Regions.
