Large shrubs or small trees; southeastern Madagascar (Toliara, possibly also in Fianaranstsoa). Notes. See Berry and Van Ee (2011) for a discussion of how Mueller (1865) mistook the type locality of Croton multicostatus for the Caribbean (Hispaniola) rather than for Madagascar. In that paper, we attributed both the P-JU and P-LA sheets as being a Philibert Commerson collection, but more likely these were collected by Franz Wilhelm Sieber, who visited Madagascar between 1822 and 1825, and included them under his series "j. maut.", as indicated on the P-LA sheet.
