Recognition.
This species of
Clinocera
is readily distinguished by the presence of an auxiliary crossvein between
R
2+3
and
R
4
, lower half of face with silvery pruinescence and a dark ring around the anterior spiracle (
Fig. 3
).
Distribution.
A Holarctic species distributed across the subarctic and arctic areas of Eurasia and North America (
Sinclair 2008
). In
Russia
,
C
.
nivalis
is known from Murmanskaya Province, Novaya Zemlya, north of Yakutia,
Chukotka
and Wrangel Island.
Habitat.
On Wrangel Island, this species was collected in various wet habitats.
