Wash. Acad. Sci. 14: 415. 1924 Type: Dominican Republic . Prov. Pacificador , Quita Espuela , vic. San Francisco de Macoris , 900 m , 7 Apr 1922 , W. Abbott 2073 ( holotype , US [ US- 1079509 , barcode US0027429] ; isotype, NY [NY00111371]). Distribution. Known only from the eastern portion of the island of Hispaniola (collections only seen from the Dominican Republic) growing in forests from 300-1300 m elevation. Representative specimen. Dominican Republic, Prov. Samana, Salazar & al. 1309 (JBSD). Of the two syntypes cited in the original description ( Eggers 1608 , Eggers 2208 ), only Eggers 2208 was cited by Urban as being fertile; the Kew duplicate ( Fig. 5a ) of this collection is therefore the most appropriate choice for a lectotype.
