). Carapace elliptical in lateral view. RV smooth in both, anterior and posterior margins. Hinge adont. Both valves with a broad inner lamella and a wide vestibulum. Selvage usually peripheral when present. Wart-like elevations (
porenwarzen
) on anterior valve surface can be seen in some species. Anteroventral margin concave with a rounded expansion LV overlapping RV. A2 with swimming setae. Second segment of the Mxl palp cylindrical in shape and longer than broad. T1 with c-seta. T2 (walking leg) five-segmented, d1 seta (if present) longer than d2. T3 (cleaning leg) three-segmented and pincer organ present. UR well-developed with Triebel loop and basal triangular structure absent.
